STUDY OVERVIEW / HIV INFECTIONS

The introduction of effective ARV treatment completely eliminated the risk of HIV infection in sexual contacts between HIV + / HIV- partners.

More than 500 HIV transmissions would occur If PARTNER study involved discordant couples where the HIV + partner wasn't under effective ARV therapy.

1.866 HIV+/HIV- couples

All recruited couples were already having condomless sex prior to entering the study pool.

  • 586 heterosexual couples
  • 1.280 MSM'men having sex with men". couples*

*total number of MSM couples is divided between two phases: 308 (PARTNER1) + 972 (PARTNER2).

134.991 condom-less sex acts

In total study accumulated over 900 CYFU (couple years of follow-up) of data which is the sum of time periods during which couples had condom-less sex during the eligible follow up.

PARTNER1 STUDY:

During follow-up, couples had sex without condoms on average 37 times per year (median). Total number of recorded sex acts:

PARTNER2 STUDY:

During follow-up, couples had sex without condoms on average 43 times per year (median). Total number of recorded sex acts:
